We're looking for a board member!
Pro Se Support Services (PSSS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals in the legal system. Our mission is to provide affordable, accessible, and high-quality administrative and procedural support to people representing themselves in civil and domestic court matters. We aim to bridge the justice gap by giving every person the knowledge, tools, and confidence to navigate the legal process, regardless of their financial situation.
We envision a community where access to justice is a fundamental right, not a privilege. By demystifying the legal process and simplifying complex paperwork, we strive to create a system that is more equitable and less intimidating for everyone. We believe in a future where individuals are empowered to advocate for themselves and where the courts are more accessible to all.
Empowerment: We believe that knowledge is power. Our primary goal is to empower individuals by equipping them with the information and resources they need to take control of their legal matters.
Accessibility: We are committed to removing financial barriers to legal assistance. Our sliding-scale fee model is a core part of this value, ensuring our services are available to those who need them most.
Integrity: We operate with the highest standards of honesty and professionalism. We are transparent in our services and fees and committed to providing accurate and reliable support within our scope.
Empathy: We approach every client with empathy and respect, understanding that legal issues can be a source of great stress. We are here to support and guide individuals through difficult times with compassion.
Community: We are a community-focused organization. We work to serve the citizens of Alamogordo and build a network of support that strengthens our entire community.
Sven Sears, Founder
Pro Se Support Services was born from a deep-rooted passion for helping the Alamogordo community, a place I have called home since 2005. My journey has given me a unique perspective on the challenges people face when navigating complex systems. As a former foster child, I learned the importance of having a strong support system. Today, my beautiful daughter is my world, and she motivates me to build a more just and equitable community for everyone.
For many years, I had the privilege of serving as a Judicial Specialist at the District Court, where I worked across the civil, domestic, criminal, and domestic violence divisions. This experience gave me a firsthand look at the many barriers that keep people from accessing the legal system, and it ignited a passion to help.
My goal with Pro Se Support Services is to empower our neighbors with the knowledge and confidence they need to advocate for themselves. I am committed to ensuring that a person's financial situation never stands in the way of their path to justice.
